Northbank Design

Established in Bath in 1998 by partners Robert Shaw and Simon Cryer, is a young, award-winning consultancy managed by designers who share a passion for producing distinctive, crafted and effective work. We aim to deliver creative solutions through clarity of thought, imaginative and stimulating design and an individual approach to every project.

Northbank specialise in brand and corporate identity and implementation, cultural, corporate and marketing literature, annual reports, websites, signage and exhibitions. All projects are managed effectively, and we believe good teamwork and the rapport we have with our clients is fundamental to the quality of the end product.

Strategic thinking and creative response

With research and understanding, we will bring an informed response to your communication requirements. This will ensure an appropriate creative solution which sets you apart, delivered in a tone of voice which reflects the personality of the brand.

We deliver:

We believe that strong project management is fundamental to the design process. Each project is rigorously controlled by the design director and project managed to ensure a day-to-day response to your needs. We don’t believe in diluting the design or management process by using account handlers. Each project will be progressed in clearly defined stages which can be monitored and adjusted to suit you. With our combined experience, we recognise and are adept at managing tight deadlines and the stringent requirements of all kinds of projects.

Simon Cryer - Design director

Having gained nine years experience in all areas of design, Simon moved to London to work at Williams and Phoa (one of London’s foremost design companies) as Design Director. He headed a team of four people and was responsible for major literature and identity projects. He won a ‘Highly Commended’ Design Week Award for Steamship Mutual’s annual report in 1998. More recently, as part of Northbank, both Simon and Robert have won national design awards for both literature and identity projects.

Robert Shaw - Design director

Robert began his career in London with H&P Associates before forming Addenda (a design company within a global exhibition and production group). Working for clients such as BT, Sony, AT&T, Northern Telecom and Intel, Robert gained experience in working within a company’s brand guidelines as well as designing identities for new product lines or exhibition stands. With Addenda he won ‘Gold’ in the National Graphic Design and Print Awards for the design of an anniversary brochure for 3M. Moved to Bath in 1992 to Fox and Partners, leaving after six years to form Northbank. Most recently he led the team which reviewed and repositioned the corporate identity for Slaughter and May, a leading international law firm.
